Wordpress Drafts Empty?

  1. Hello,
Whenever I save a draft on my iPhone locally, it ends up dumped into the ether. That is, the display page for drafts shows nothing, but the local drafts count on the blog screen says "Local Drafts (2)"
This is the right number of drafts, it is just that they aren’t visible, is my data recoverable at all?

    Standard stuff:

    * Whether you're using WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress:

    I'm using a self-hosted blog at timedoctor.org
    * If self-hosted, the version of WordPress you're using

    2.7.1
    * The version of your iPhone system software (it helps if you're up-to-date at version 2.2.1)

    2.2.1
    * The version of WordPress for iPhone you're using (please upgrade to version 1.21 before posting. You can find the version by launching the app and selecting "About WordPress for iPhone")

    1.21
    * Whether your phone is jailbroken
    Not jailbroken

  2. @TimeDcotor --

    Thanks for all the info.

Since this happens each time you save, do you mind trying this on a WordPress.com blog.
I'm trying to see if the issue is specific to your blog, or maybe something else on the iPhone is conflicting with the app -- in which case the WordPress.com blog would have the same issue.

  3. Same situation here, self-hosted blog, 2.7.1, newest iPhone OS (2.2.1) and iPhone app!

So I tested the function in Wordpress.com (testblog). There it works as expected... Count of local drafts shows the amount of posts and within tue local drafts folder all poste are accessible!

Hope you van fix it soon for self-hosted blogs!

  4. I am also having the same problem with the Wordpress app. Local Draft shows 5 posts but there is nothing there. Very sad.

    It's a self hosting blog.

  5. Hi,

I've got a self-hosted blog, and I post from the iPhone app with no difficulties of this sort... It's the default theme however with no plugins... Are any of these blogs WPMU?

Post back and we'll try to help you solve this...

  6. I've got a self-hosted blog, and I post from the iPhone app with no difficulties of this sort

I am having the same issue described above with the following setup:

    self-hosted blog, WP v 2.8, iPod OS 3.0, WP for iPhone v. 1.21

I can successfully post to my blog using the app, but only if I post immediately after writing the draft. If I leave the drafting screen, then the draft disappears as described above.

  7. I do NOT have a self-hosted blog. My blog is borninchinese.wordpress.com, but I just had the same issue described above... I wrote up a long draft, saved it in "local drafts", went back to it later and, despite the (1) showing in the menu, the local drafts menu was empty!

I am using iPhone OS 3.0 for an iPhone 3G. Is there any way to recover that draft?

    Thanks!

  8. I just had the same issue as borninchinese, and I desperately hope to recover my draft because I am afraid I will just have to scream if I have to recreate my blog post from scratch,

  9. Exact same issue!

    Self hosted
    2.84
    3.12
    1.21.1
    jailbroken

  10. All,

We had a bug (fixed in the soon-to-be-released new version) that caused this error. Our apologies of course, and I sympathize with the frustration of losing a long post...

The next version should resolve this issue...

  11. Will the new version allow recovery of these past posts?

Can the data be extracted from the App?

  12. I seem to be having this issue with v2.0 of the app, and a self-hosted install running 2.8.5. I've tried 3 different posts, clicked save, and nothing happens. I don't see any local drafts. If I set the post to post as a draft to the site, that works, and appears in the list of posts.

Am I missing a page, or is this bug actually still there?

  13. miklb,

I can't reproduce. If I create a "local draft" and press save, it shows up just fine for me...

It could be a scrolling thing - the list of posts scrolls and "local drafts" live at the top. If you were fairly far "down" into your list of posts when you create the draft, you won't see it when the list page comes back... you'd need to scroll "up" to get to the "local drafts" section of the post list tableView...

Let us know if that helps and if not...

  14. interestica,

Will the new version allow recovery of these past posts?
    No, it won't.

Can the data be extracted from the App?
It would be fairly difficult and require custom code -- even then, installing new bits might very likely delete the lost post. Probability of success less than 10% in my opinion...

Some possibility of getting the bits out of the backup to iTunes IF everything is just right, but I have not tried anything like this personally... I would bet that turning the application off will remove the data associated with the lost post...
